History

History lists every change and every refused attempt, newest first: rooms switched, automatic re-enables, bulk changes, IP changes, new computers, room rights and allowed sites. Everyone with a Matrix role can read it.

What is recorded

Each entry has Date and time (in your local time), the user (or System for automatic re-enables), the Action, the Room / policy (room code, policy ID and name), the Change (previous and desired state, or old and new IP, or the rights before and after), and the Result.

ActionWhat
Room rule (policy)A room enabled or disabled.
Automatic re-enable (schedule)A room turned back on by its schedule.
Bulk change (bulk)Rooms switched together (each room also has its own entry).
IP change (address_update)A computer's IP changed.
New computer (address_create)A computer created and added to a group.
Room rights (grants)A teacher's rooms changed, with the list before and after.
Allowed sites (sites)An allowed-sites list saved: the room (or All rooms (shared list)), the group, the number of domains before and after, and Added: / Removed: domains.
Entrosity services (removed) (services)Only entries from before the Entrosity services were removed: the former switch Keep Entrosity services reachable, or an update of the Matrix Entrosity services group by the System. No new entries of this kind are made, and the Action filter no longer offers it.

Results: Pending, Success, Unconfirmed, Refused, Error, Cancelled (Changes and results).

  • A change is recorded before it is sent. If it cannot be recorded, nothing is sent.
  • Refused attempts are recorded too: a teacher without the right, a firewall with changes switched off, the rate limit.
  • An interrupted change stays Unconfirmed; nothing is retried automatically.
  • Entries cannot be edited or deleted, in the app or in the database (the table is append-only); only a pending entry gets its result.
  • Passwords, API tokens and cookies are never recorded.
  • Teachers see only the entries of the rooms granted to them (including their own refused attempts on those rooms); entries without a room, such as firewall settings, room rights or the list for all rooms, are not shown to them.

Steps

Open an entry to see its Steps: for a room switch, the write-time authorization (allowed or refused, with the reason, for example room_not_granted when the teacher's right was removed after the change was sent) and the outcome; for address changes also each journaled stage (update_sent, create_sent, created, member_sent, done); for allowed sites the stages create_sent, created, member_sent and delete_sent, with the object they concern.

Filters

From and To (dates), User, Room (part of a room code, for example SB1), Action. Clear resets them. Older entries loads the next page.

Imported entries

Entries brought over from the old panel are marked Imported from the old panel (source stop-internet): room switches, IP changes and new computers with their original time, user, IP and result, and each teacher's rooms as a Room rights entry (Moving from the old panel).

How long entries are kept

The change history is kept; the retention settings of the tenant apply to the audit log and finished connector jobs, not to it.
