Getting started
This walk-through takes a new tenant from nothing to a door that opens for one card. It needs the Tenant admin role (Roles and permissions). A new tenant's dashboard shows the same three steps under Getting started.
No hardware yet? Follow the same steps with simulated controllers: Trying Edge with the simulator adds what is different.
Before you start
- An always-on Windows computer on the site's network (a small server or
a mini PC) that reaches the controllers, with outbound HTTPS to
hub.entrosity.com(Connectors → Requirements). - The controllers' addresses:
host:portfor TCP/IP controllers; for an RS-485 bus, the serial port or Modbus gateway and each controller's bus address (1–31). - Optional: a site with the right time zone under Sites. Schedules follow the site's time zone, or the tenant's default time zone (Tenant settings, sites and audit log).
1. Install a connector
-
Open Connectors and choose Install a connector.
-
Give it a Label (for example Head office server), pick the Site, keep Maximum uses at 1 and Expires after (days) at 7, and choose Create token.
-
Copy the command under Windows: install the MSI (elevated prompt) and run it in an elevated command prompt on the computer, in the folder of
edge-connector.msi:msiexec /i edge-connector.msi /qn ENROLLMENT_TOKEN=<token> SERVER_URL=https://hub.entrosity.com/edge -
Within a minute the connector appears in Connectors as Online.
The token is shown only once. Details, the command-line alternative and troubleshooting: Connectors.
2. Add controllers
- Open Controllers and choose Add controller.
- Pick the Connector and the Controller type.
- Choose Find controllers. For TrackBase002 controllers, first enter the Addresses to probe (one per line). Pick a controller from the list: its address, model, serial number and door mode are filled in.
- Check the Name, the Connection (TCP/IP or RS-485 (Modbus) with its Bus address (1-31)), the Doors mode and the Site, and choose Add controller.
The controller's doors and readers are created from the door mode, and its configuration is sent right away. See Controllers, doors and readers.
TrackBase002 controllers need their PIN: enter it in Controller PIN when you add one (Controller PIN). They must be reached over TCP/IP. The driver is not yet verified on a live controller: try one controller first (TrackBase002 controllers).
3. Name doors and check readers
Open the controller. Under Doors, give each door a name people recognise (Main entrance), check the Lock relay and the Unlock time (ms), and choose Save. Under Readers, check that each reader serves the right Door in the right Direction.
4. Create a schedule
- Open Schedules and choose New schedule.
- Give it a Name, pick a preset such as Office hours (Mon–Fri 08:00–18:00) or Always (24/7), adjust the windows, and choose Save.
- Optional: add the year's public holidays under Holidays.
5. Create an access group
- Open Access groups and choose New access group; give it a Name (for example Staff).
- Under Doors and schedules, tick the doors the group may pass, pick the Schedule for each, and choose Save doors.
See Access groups.
6. Add cardholders and cards
- Open Cardholders and choose Add cardholder. Enter the First name, tick the access group under Access groups, and choose Save.
- On the cardholder's page, choose Add card. Pick the Type:
Wiegand 26 with the Card number printed on the card (up to 10
digits, e.g.
0015592682; Facility code + number takes the two parts instead), or iButton with its iButton id (hex). Choose Register.
The controllers of the group's doors receive the card within seconds; the controller shows In sync again once it has applied it. See Cardholders and cards.
7. Watch it work
Open Live monitor and present the card at a reader: an Access granted event appears with the person's name, the door and the direction. Outside the schedule the event is Access denied (outside the schedule); an unregistered card shows Unknown card. See Live monitor and event history.
