Device actions
Actions create a job for the device's agent (or its site's connector). Offline devices receive the job when they reconnect, until it expires. Every action is recorded in the audit log.
Technicians and tenant admins can run the operational actions; editing, merging and decommissioning need a tenant admin.
Refresh inventory
The agent collects everything again and sends a full report.
Reboot and shut down
| Option | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Delay (seconds) | Time before the restart (at least 5 s, so the result reaches the server). |
| Message to users | Shown to signed-in users (no quotes or line breaks). |
| Force | Close applications without asking. |
The agent runs shutdown.exe directly; the message is never passed
through a shell.
Every signed-in user also sees a notice in the Entrosity Axis design: the logo, Your computer will restart (or shut down), your message (or, without one, Your IT administrator scheduled a restart of this computer.), Save your work and close your programs before then., a countdown (Restarting in 4:32) and Dismiss. It appears even without a message, is shown on every active session, and never takes the keyboard focus. Windows adds its own shutdown notice as well.
Uninstall software
From the Software tab, or as a bulk action by program name. The server picks the safest silent method from the inventory entry:
- the MSI product code (
msiexec /x {GUID} /qn /norestart); - the program's quiet uninstall string;
- winget, when the program has a winget ID;
- the uninstall string plus the silent arguments you give (e.g.
/S,/quiet,/VERYSILENT).
- Programs that are not silent by themselves need silent arguments
(
needs_silent_args). - Silent arguments must be plain switches: quotes and
& | < > ^ % !are refused, because the uninstall string runs throughcmd.exeas SYSTEM. - Per-user programs are removed in the signed-in user's session.
- Store (AppX) apps cannot be removed this way (
no_uninstall_method).
Wake up (wake-on-LAN)
Sent by an online site connector with the wol capability in the
device's site, to the MAC addresses from the device's network inventory.
Fails with no_site, no_connector or no_mac_address when one of these
is missing. The device's network card and BIOS must allow wake-on-LAN.
Remote desktop
Remote desktop opens the device's screen in a new browser tab, to watch or to take control. See Remote desktop.
Cancel a job
On the Activity tab, an unfinished job can be cancelled. A job that is still queued on the agent is dropped. A running installer is left to finish, because a half-finished installer does more damage than a late success, and then reports its real result.
Edit a device
Tenant admins can set a display name, the site, tags (comma
separated) and custom fields (key=value, one per line).
Merge two records
If an AD-only record and an agent record of the same computer were not
matched automatically, open the device to keep and choose Merge another
record into this device. Jobs, deployment targets, script runs, alerts,
the AD link and the agent move to the kept device in one transaction. Two
records that both have an agent cannot be merged (both_have_agents):
decommission the stale one instead.
Decommission
Removes the device and revokes its agent key at once, on every backend replica: the agent is disconnected (close code 4003) and stops. History is kept (soft delete). To bring the machine back, reinstall the agent with an enrollment token.
