Screen wall
Screen wall shows the screens of a computer room at once: up to 30 computers, live, view only. Nothing can be clicked or typed on the computers from the wall, but their keyboard and mouse can be locked. It is meant for teachers watching their class and for IT looking over a room.
The rooms come from Entrosity Matrix: a room is a
Matrix room (for example SB2-215) and its computers are the computers of
the room's FortiGate address group (SD2229.coding.local, …). Axis finds
each computer by its name (the part before the first dot). The screen wall
needs Matrix on the same server; without it the page says so.
Who may watch what
| Role in Axis | Rooms | Session bar on the computers |
|---|---|---|
| Teacher | Only the rooms granted to them on Matrix's Room rights page | Never shown |
| Technician | Every room | Always shown |
| Tenant admin, global admin | Every room | Their choice (Show the session bar on the computers, off by default) |
| Viewer | none |
Teacher is an Axis role given on Entrosity Hub like the others (Roles and permissions). A teacher sees only Screen wall in Axis: no devices, scripts or settings. For their rooms they also need the Teacher role in Entrosity Matrix and the rooms granted there; a right removed in Matrix ends their open screens within about 15 seconds, and a teacher who loses the Axis role is disconnected by the regular check.
The users of the computers are never asked for permission. When the bar is shown it says … is viewing your screen, like in a view-only remote desktop session.
Watch a room
- Open Screen wall in the sidebar.
- Choose the Room (grouped by building; the number of computers is shown).
- Administrators: tick or untick Show the session bar on the computers.
- Choose Show screens.
Each tile shows the computer's name, the signed-in user and its screen, about once a second and at a reduced size (at most 640×400). Click a tile to enlarge it: the enlarged computer streams 720p (at most 1280×720, about 5 pictures a second) until you click it again or choose Back to all screens. Close (or leaving the page or closing the tab) ends every session.
Lock keyboard and mouse
The lock button in the top-right corner of a live tile locks that computer's own keyboard and mouse: the person at the computer cannot type or click until it is unlocked. A locked tile shows a red lock; click it again to unlock. Lock all and Unlock all above the grid do the same for every computer of the room (computers that connect later follow the last of the two).
The lock always ends with the session: Close, leaving the page, the room right being removed or the network dropping unlock the computer at once. Windows lifts the lock when the user presses Ctrl+Alt+Del; the computer locks again as soon as that screen is gone. Locking needs an agent from this release (an older one shows the tile's lock in red with the reason as a tooltip). Every role that may watch a room may lock its computers.
For a sharp picture, or to help the user, use Remote desktop on the device instead (technicians and administrators).
Tile states
| Tile | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Live picture | Connected. Sign-in screen when nobody is signed in. |
| Connecting…, Waiting for the computer… | The session is starting. |
| Not in Entrosity Axis | No Axis device has the computer's name. |
| Offline | The device is offline. |
| No agent | The device has no agent. |
| In a remote session | Someone is in a remote desktop session with it; the wall never interrupts it. |
| Agent update needed | The agent is older than the screen wall (it updates itself). |
| Not supported, Not available | The device cannot show its screen right now. |
| Session ended | The session ended (the room right was removed, someone started a remote desktop session or another wall on it, the network dropped). Open the room again. |
Limits
- At most 30 computers per room are shown; the page says how many more the room has.
- A computer shows one wall at a time: when a second person opens a wall with the same computer, the first one's tile ends. A remote desktop session on a computer ends its wall tile; a wall never ends a remote desktop session.
- Each tile is a remote desktop session in view mode with the profile
wall: it is in the audit log (remote.session_request,remote.session_start,remote.session_endwith the room), and the screen content is never recorded or stored.
