Site connector

The site connector is a small Windows service (RMMConnector) installed on one domain-joined server per site. It does everything that must happen inside the customer network:

  • reads Active Directory over LDAP(S);
  • pushes the agent to computers over SMB (or WinRM);
  • sends wake-on-LAN packets.

Like the agent, it only makes outbound HTTPS connections to the server.

Requirements

  • Windows Server (or Windows 10/11) joined to the domain.
  • Outbound HTTPS (443) to the Entrosity Axis server and its files host.
  • To the domain controller: TCP 636 (LDAPS) or 389 (StartTLS).
  • For agent push, to the PCs: TCP 445 (SMB, used first) or 5986/5985 (WinRM).
  • For wake-on-LAN: the server must be in the same broadcast domain as the PCs (or the network must forward directed broadcasts).

Install

  1. Under Active Directory → Site connectors, choose Download connector and pick the site. This creates a single-use connector token. (Tokens made under Agent enrollment are for agents; the connector refuses them.)

  2. Download the connector MSI and run the command shown, in an elevated prompt on the server. Copy and paste it rather than retyping the token:

    msiexec /i rmm-connector.msi /qn ENROLLMENT_TOKEN=<token> SERVER_URL=https://hub.entrosity.com/axis
  3. The connector appears under Active Directory → Connectors as online within a minute.

Running as a domain account (optional)

By default the service runs as LocalSystem. To run it as a domain account, add:

SERVICE_ACCOUNT=CORP\svc-rmm SERVICE_PASSWORD=<password>

The installer grants the account "Log on as a service" and access to %ProgramData%\RMM Connector.

When the install fails

/qn hides errors. Run it again with /l*v C:\connector-install.log and look for Return value 3. Delete the log afterwards: it contains the token.

Status

A connector is online from its first message until its connection closes, or after 3 minutes without a heartbeat. The connector offline alert rule (critical, 15 minutes by default) tells you when one drops.

Removing a connector

Deleting a connector in the portal revokes its key, cancels its open jobs, deletes its AD sync configurations, and closes its connection. Uninstall the MSI on the server afterwards.

Updates

Connectors update themselves like agents; see Agent releases. Technical details: connector reference.
